CathCal is a digital companion for the Traditional Roman Catholic liturgy. It presents the daily calendar of the Extraordinary Form according to the Missale Romanum of 1962, with a parallel view of the Ordinary Form. Each day shows the feast or feria, its class, the liturgical colour, the Mass readings, notes on fasting and abstinence, and devotional guidance.
Sources
The calendar follows the 1962 Missale Romanum. All English Scripture, in both the Extraordinary Form and Ordinary Form views and in the Divine Office, is taken from the public-domain Douay-Rheims Bible (Challoner revision). On the Ordinary Form page, the passages follow the day's Roman Lectionary citations, but the wording is Douay-Rheims and is not the approved Lectionary translation used at Mass in the United States. The Divine Office also draws on the Divinum Officium Project (used under the MIT License), the 1908 English Breviary translation of John, Marquess of Bute, and the Hymns of the Breviary and Missal (1922) of Dom Matthew Britt. Saint biographies draw on the Catholic Encyclopedia (1913), the original Lives of the Saints of Alban Butler, and the 1916 English translation of the Roman Martyrology. Devotions are taken from the 1910 English Raccolta and other public-domain collections.
Purpose and limits
CathCal is a private devotional project. It is not an official publication of the Catholic Church, of any diocese, or of any religious institute, and it is not a substitute for approved liturgical books. Calendar computations and texts are offered in good faith; visitors should confirm Mass times, obligations, and fasting practice with their parish priest.
